5 Warning Signs Your Brakes Need Attention
Don't ignore these red flags — brake failure is one of the leading causes of road accidents in Uganda. Act immediately if you notice any of the following.
Squealing or Grinding
High-pitched squealing means worn brake pads. A grinding metal-on-metal sound means the pad is completely gone — stop driving immediately.
Vehicle Pulling
If your car veers left or right when you brake, a calliper may be sticking or a brake hose may be collapsed on one side.
Vibrating Pedal
A pulsating or vibrating brake pedal usually indicates warped brake discs — common after heavy use on Uganda's hilly terrain.
Spongy or Soft Pedal
A pedal that sinks too easily could mean air in the brake lines, a fluid leak, or failing master cylinder — a serious safety concern.
Brake Warning Light

Check the tyre sidewall (e.g. 205/65 R15) and always match your manufacturer's recommended size to maintain speedometer accuracy and handling.

Choose All-Terrain for Upcountry
If you regularly drive on murram or unpaved roads, an all-terrain (AT) tyre offers the grip and durability city tyres simply can't match.

Check the Load & Speed Rating
Overloading a tyre risks blowouts. Verify the load index against your vehicle's maximum load — especially important for SUVs and pickups.

Don't Mix Tyre Types
Mixing radial and bias-ply tyres, or different brands on the same axle, compromises handling. Always fit identical tyres in pairs at minimum.

Check Tread Depth Regularly
Uganda's wet seasons create hydroplaning risks. Replace tyres when tread depth falls below 2 mm for safe wet-weather braking.
