Warning Signs Your Engine Needs Attention

Don't ignore these signals — catching problems early saves you significant repair costs.

1

Check Engine Light Is On

A lit dashboard warning light means your ECU has detected a fault. Don't ignore it — book a diagnostic scan immediately.

2

Unusual Engine Noises

Knocking, tapping, or rattling from the engine bay often indicates bearing wear, low oil pressure, or loose timing components.

3

Excessive Oil Consumption

If you're adding oil frequently between changes, worn piston rings, valve seals, or gasket leaks may be to blame.

4

Overheating Engine

A temperature gauge in the red zone points to cooling system failure. Pull over immediately to prevent irreversible engine damage.

5

White or Blue Exhaust Smoke

White smoke indicates coolant burning in the combustion chamber; blue smoke means oil is being burned — both require urgent attention.

6

Loss of Power or Rough Idling

Misfires, rough idling, or sluggish acceleration suggest fuel delivery, ignition, or compression problems that need diagnosis.

Our Repair Process

A clear, transparent workflow so you always know what's happening with your vehicle.

1. Diagnostic Scan & Visual Inspection

We connect your vehicle to our diagnostic computer to extract all fault codes and cross-reference them with a thorough physical inspection of the engine bay, belts, hoses, and fluid levels.

2. Detailed Repair Estimate

You receive a written quote with a full breakdown of labour, parts, and expected completion time — no hidden fees, no surprises. We explain every line item clearly.

3. Authorised Repair Work

With your approval, our certified technicians carry out the repairs using quality OEM or OEM-equivalent parts. We photograph key stages for transparency.

4. Quality Control Road Test

Every repaired vehicle undergoes a road test and final diagnostic scan to verify all fault codes are cleared and the repair is successful before handover.

5. Handover & Warranty Documentation

We walk you through the completed work, hand over your warranty certificate, and advise on any preventive maintenance to keep the engine running optimally.

"My Toyota Land Cruiser was overheating badly on the Kampala–Jinja road. I took it to AutoServe and they diagnosed a blown head gasket within an hour. The repair was done in two days with genuine parts, and they provided a written warranty. Six months later, the engine runs better than ever. I recommend AutoServe to everyone."

Engine Repair FAQs

Common questions about our engine repair services.

Duration depends on the type of repair. A timing belt replacement takes 1–2 days; a head gasket repair typically 2–3 days; a complete engine overhaul can take 5–7 working days. We provide a clear timeline upfront and notify you immediately of any changes.
We prioritise genuine OEM parts where available. When genuine parts are unavailable or out of budget, we use trusted OEM-equivalent quality parts from reputable suppliers. We never use low-grade parts that could compromise safety or longevity.
This depends on the engine's overall condition, the car's value, and the cost of a replacement unit. Our technicians will give you an honest assessment comparing repair vs. replacement costs, helping you make the most financially sound decision.
All engine repairs come with a 3-month or 5,000 km warranty on parts and labour (whichever comes first). For complete engine rebuilds, we offer a 6-month warranty. Our warranty documentation is provided in writing at the time of vehicle handover.
